| THE STORY OF SHE SPIES: | |
|
Every once in a while, an elite crime fighting team emerges - a highly sophisticated covert ops, specially trained in global intelligence maneuvers. This is not one of those teams. They are 3 career criminals with one shot at freedom. Now they are working for the feds who put them away. These are the women of She Spies, bad girls gone good! So goes the story at the intro of the show. And it basically sums up the premise of the show. "She Spies" is a Charlie's Angels for the new millenium. Three intelligent, sophisticated and sexy women band together to fight criminals. There is a twist, however....these women used to be criminals themselves. It all began in the mind of agent Jack Wilde [Carlos Jacott]. He had the brilliant idea of taking white collar criminals [ones who hadn't been arrested for murder or anything horrible like that] and using their talents for the benefit of good. Enter Cassie McBain [Natasha Henstridge], D.D. Cummings [Kristen Miller] and Shane Phillips [Natashia Williams]. Though resistant at first, these good-at-heart women realized that they can make a difference. And besides, it is more fun to wreak havoc when you have the law behind you instead of gunning for you. "She Spies" is a show that blends equal parts of intrigue and suspense and marinates it in a healthy dose of humor. In a nod to shows like Naked Gun, the characters of "She Spies" often spoof themselves and the cop/spy genre as a whole. It's this combination that has made "She Spies" an instant hit from its debut in July 2002. Forged in a partnership between MGM and NBC, "She Spies" originally debuted in primetime on NBC in the US. It then went into syndication world-wide where it is now seen in over 65 countries. At the end of the first season, they gave a hint that Jack and DD may become romantically involved. All that was squashed when the second season debuted and Jack was nowhere to be found. In his place, were two new additions to the She Spies team: Quentin Cross [Cameron Daddo], a tough-as-nails veteran spy and Duncan [Jamie Iglehart], a techno-gadget whiz-kid. Will the new formula mean higher ratings for the show? Or will it be like "New Coke" and fail because it tinkered with a forumla that was working? Time will tell, I guess.
